STOP PRESS:
Bristol Gigs CANCELLED due to Laryngitis
Sadly due to the temporary in-operation of my larynx, both of this weeks Bristol gigs have had to be cancelled (Sunday- Canteen, Wednesday- Harbourside) Boo.
Its not all bad, a week of total voice rest (yes, that means absolutely no speaking) kind of feels like a homemade 'retreat'. And I'm going to get to reading some of those great books on my shelf, and making some new squares for my crochet blanket. Its snowing out there!

Back in the UK!

To celebrate the homecoming, got a special intimate gig just over the water from Plymouth at...

The Inn on the Shore in Downderry on FRIDAY 28th OCTOBER. 8PM

This is the first gig back home from the tour... and I will be accompanied by Alex Beamont on cello.

If you want to try something tasty before, come early and try the amazing Thai food cooked by Usanee, the landlords wife and chef. Or why not make a camp of it, wake up to the wild Cornish sea on Saturday morning and cook your breakfast? That's what we'll be doing!

Really looking forward to this...

Back in August, me and my red piano took a trip in a ski lift in up to have a look at the gigantic beast of Mont Blanc... and courtesy of the brilliant Balcony TV Chamonix, we made a little live concert on the balcony up there.

THE TOUR IS OFFICIALLY OVER!

What a beautiful, surprising, delicious and heart filling summer. Thank you so much to all the wonderful people I have had the pleasure of meeting, for all those who have invited me, welcomed, fed, cared for, and generally overwhelmed me with love and the most extraordinary generosity at every opportunity.

It has been a three month domino run of the most incredible moments. I have a lot of beautiful photos to publish here soon.

But in the meantime, a little surprise.

Here is a brand new video shot and edited this last week in Brussels with the beautiful team at Animaje, my wonderous friends Florin and Dany Iancovescu.

*** THIS AUTUMN...

The Flying Frenchies Festival @ La Grainerie, Toulouse

Between 26th and 27th September, The Flying Frenchies are hosting a festival at La Grainerie in Toulouse featuring screenings of their groundbreaking films, live music from the band, a couple of shows I will play, as well as a few other surprises.

Who are The Flying Frenchies?

They are engineers, mountain guides, rope workers, circus performers, musicians ...

In search of extreme sensations they practice a range of high-flying sports: highline, mountaineering, climbing, basejump, wingsuit, paragliding, speed riding, skiing...

In search of aesthetics, creativity, experimentation of new combinations always in vertical environments, their projects are real giants laboratories, where art, humans and pleasure are central.

Here's a little snippet of a recent experiment.

You can see their feature films here:

The End of a Delicious Summer...The Beginning of a New Album
....and some new dates for the calendar

It was beautiful. June and July spent festivalling in sunny UK and August spent in Norway filming with the crazy adrenaline hungry Petit Bus Rouge Team... and then finished off with a three week tour of France and Brussels. PHWOAR. And then double wrapped with filming for a new UK independent documentary about street performers which saw me doing a lot of busking in England at the beginning of this month.
Thank you to all the gorgeous folk encountered on the way, oh me oh my, were there many!

Its a time of fruitfulness, there's two films in the pipeline, and new songs being added every day to the NEW ALBUM, and we have some new dates too this autumn.
We'll be doing a tour with our friends Heg and The Wolf Chorus at the end of October.
Check out this new video from them:

The last few dates are being confirmed as I write and the complete list will be added at the beginning of next week. Keep your eyes peeled. Can you believe there are many new songs to hear!

See you soon! And thank you for your sweet support this summer. It's going to be fuel for the fire this winter...

A Melting Pot of Nutritious Wonderousness!

Well wooweee! CECIL SHARP HOUSE? Have you ever been there? What a gorgeous gig to play! I met the incredible Bird Radio there.

This video should do something to describe what we saw....

Thank you so much to the gorgeous London audience. I drove all the way back to Devon with a gigantic smile across my face. Truly a cup-filling experience.

A few days after London, the new Midnight Fairground trio was premiered at Exeter Phoenix for the Sculpture Music EP launch night.
Another beautiful evening.

I'm currently editing the film footage we took from that night.

Keep your eyes peeled for some new live videos, featuring myself, and Alex! our new wonderful cellist, and Conrad on clarinet and guitar. Such a good combination! You shall hear for yourselves soon...
Some photos will be coming too... (!)

Ok! The gigs calendar has finally been updated, you can check out by clicking EVENTS
I truly promise never to allow the events page to get so behind! Its the spring innit. Sometimes it takes a while to catch up with ourselves, but I assure you, I'm all caught up and up to date. And it WILL be kept that way (on the website at least!)

I think that's all the updates. The videos and photos will come soon, as will news of other summer dates. We're gearing towards releasing a sneaky album track or two for Glastonbury and then completing the album by the end of the summer...

And in the meantime! I'm off to India for a month!

Happy spring folks!

New Songs, New Arrangements!
We're busy in the studio...

I write from my seat by the window at home as I listen to the new cello arrangements. There's a sleeping blue-eyed cat on my lap and a large smile on my face. The album is underway, being co-produced with recently Oscar Nominated composer/producer Jered Sorkin in his beautiful rural studio by the sea in Slapton, South Devon.
So what's it going to be like? People ask...

We're moving away from the full band arrangements and taking each song, moment by moment and crafting the sound. This album will be wilder, will be more raw and gutsy, yet softer and ambient than the last. This time, we're taking our time. It will be in our hands by the end of the summer, but shortly we'll release a couple of teaser tracks. Keep your ears out for that.

There are gigs in the calendar too, check out EVENTSThis week I'll be at Cecil Sharp House in London on Thursday 7th and a few of us at The Exeter Phoenix on Saturday 9th.

A new tour vehicle is also imminent to get us into gear for the summer...   See you soon!

Final Show of the Year!
7th December @ The Barrel House, Totnes

2012 has been an extraordinary year. “Black Horses” was nationally released in the spring and received sparkling reviews and BBC radio airtime. Followed by a packed UK spring tour, a place won on stage at Glastonbury 2013 at The South West UK Busking Competition, a summer tour through France, Italy, Austria, and Belgium and a littering of south west dates throughout the autumn.

This is the very last show of the year. The new album is currently underway and is set to be released next year. Roll up, roll up! Come along and hear: the good and old and sweet murmurings of the new… With support from Lux Harmonium.

A two month road trip across Europe, and then! Back filming in Spain!

So its a little shoddy to say the least that not one photo has been published here to remark upon what was quite frankly the most remarkable musical summer ever had in Europe! Playing venues and streets, markets and festivals throughout France, Austria, Italy and Belgium... sleeping alone in the Mercedes by the river in Avignon... climbing and swimming with beautiful fish, eating hot chewy pretzels in Germany... visiting friends and family in Luxembourg... drinking schaps and grappa way into the night... Some photos will come soon.

I had only been back in UK but a few weeks before I was whisked off again on a plane to Zaragoza in Spain to play on a extreme aerial circus documentary. Staying in a beautiful 1970s British Fire Engine with a dozen others, eating organic food, climbing, and most importantly playing music to spectacle after spectacle taking place off the sheer cliff that is Mallos de Riglos. The film will be out in January. But in the meantime, check out Sebastian Montaz's previous film "I Believe I Can Fly" and here are some photos.

So despite the weather dragging its heels (I believe the weather can do that), summer is approaching fast. And the calendar is suitably chocka! Have a peek at the shows page

London is next. I'm off to The Gladstone in Borough, first to check out the famous market (I'm a sucker for markets) and then in the evening to play. Its the first London gig for a few years now, so it promises to be quite a novelty.

I've been very busy. Have you seen us on Balcony TV? I'm soon going to put some nice videos up, I played on BBC Bristol and BBC Devon in March and have some very sweet footage (!) so keep eyes peeled.

And for those in Europe, I'm coming back this summer! France, Italy, Austria and hopefully Germany and Belgium at some point between July and August so will put the info up on the shows page as soon as it comes!

Oooh, before I forget! Got some great support slots too in the next month and a bit. On 30th May I'll be supporting Sheelanagig at The Slaughtered Lamb in London... And on 8th June supporting Gadjo at Calstock Festival. If you have yet to hear of both these phenomenally highly acclaimed bands then check out here: GADJO and SHEELANAGIG

Studio Lounge, Wills Road, Totnes, Devon TQ9 5XN

Tim and I are playing at The Studio Lounge tonight, Totnes' new venue for live music. We'll be playing some new songs and maybe a few new covers from behind their beautiful smokey disco ball... Its an amazingly cosy cafe type venue with a bar, though tickets are limited.

With support from Colourful Genre.

Colourful Genre is the musical umbrella under which snigger/songwriter John Elliott shelters while performing to the crowds. Former lead vocalist with 70s Prank Rockers, The Lesser Known Tunisians, who forged a path of parody through the Glam Rock/Punk/New Wave era. John has continued to create musical milestones through the years. Today he is still entertaining audiences with his uniquely original style: Quirky Songs with Curious Lyrics and Catchy Tunes. A self-styled soul survivor of the Seventies, he describes his sound as a Blues tinged Jazzy Cocktail, with a solid gold Rock & Soul pedigree and Psychedelic flights of fancy.

Would you believe this is winter? Down here in south Devon I can report that we have had 3 frosts so far. And we're nearly February! Wow right? I reckon it wont be long til we're all bouncing around with spring energy!
Its been quite quiet a winter. I have new evidence supporting the theory that I am part lizard. On the 10th December I carelessly chopped the end of my index finger off with an axe. The next day I found the bit of my finger in the wood chip. Suffice to say that it was gorey and distressing and I spent some days snuggled up in the caravan in denial of this most horrific news. After about 6 weeks of carrying around the most ridiculous sized cartoon type bandage I unveiled a .... new ... finger?? Amazing. Amazing. I archived the progress of the regrowth through photos but Im holding back from publishing them on the internet. Anyway, the finger looks good, but i have had to craft myself a special protective cover to use whilst playing the piano because the nerve damage is such that pressing the new tip of my finger on any surface (let alone hammering on a piano) is enough to turn the stomach.
Come along to our show and check out this mad new development!

See you there...

Watch out.
It will leap into your face soon...

Did you wonder if we'd hibernated? Because it sure has been a few months since we updated our news. I was considering hibernating, but I reckon the only one who has been hibernating this year is Jack Frost. He's not so much tickled the Devon air with chill this year. So now, the daily session of knitting should suffice for the sleepy winter activity.

Does anyone else want a new hot water bottle cover? Maybe I'll show you what I've been making.

Poor Lou has been in hospital for a few weeks after the birth and its been touch and go but we think she's on the mend now. JD's wife Tracey was admitted to A&E a week ago in a lot of pain, its seems to have eased for now?

“Black Horses”, the new album is finally finished and ready to be feasted upon! Come along to celebrate! See our cheeky faces *enhanced* by the joy of having mits full of dozens of beautiful discs! We're overjoyed to confirm support from Miss Chelsea Orme Williams... a new face to The Barrel House. We discovered her at Annabel's Cabaret back in March singing with unusal gumption and grit to the sound of a stomping and twanging guitar. Expect to find your feet moving you... Very excited to see her play again! What a week its been. After a car crash on the way home from Exeter last week, we're a bit shaken up. But oh so ready to get some songs into the airwaves...And boy, will we have energy. Have you checked out our NEW GIG LISTINGS? Amongst others, we're down for Standon Calling Festival in August

to play on The Rolling Stage dressed as Gods and Beasts. Check it out.. More gigs in the pipeline. This page is updated every few days...
See you soon!
